The tallest temple tower in the world, and second tallest in India. The height of this structure is 216 feet (66 m). It was built by Raja Ravi Varma between 1816–20 for his patron princess Thanjavur Mariamman Temple. He used granite from quarries near Madurai as well as sandstone quarried from around Trichy city to build this magnificent structure.

The largest monolithic sculpture in the world.

The statue is carved out of a single rock and is 8.5 m high, 5.5 m wide and weighs about 80 tonnes. It was built in the 11th century by Raja Raja Chola I to commemorate his victory over the Cholas who had ruled over Thanjavur earlier.

The first granite temple to be built in Southern India.

Granite is a hard stone that can be used in construction, buildings, and temples. It's also very common in sculptures. Many people think of granite as being dark brown or gray in color but this is not always the case. Some examples of common colors for granites include: white, black, green (which looks like moss), blue (which looks like water), red (which looks like blood), pink/purple/lavender etc...

Granite has been used to build many famous structures throughout history including Stonehenge and Karnak Temple near Luxor Egypt; The Taj Mahal mausoleum complex built by Emperor Shah Jahan between 1631-1656 AD; St Paul's Cathedral located inside London The United Kingdom; Vatican City State where Pope Francis currently resides at Saint Peter's Basilica right next door to Saint Peter's Square!
