The town was founded by Shevaroys of Kodaikanal who migrated from Madurai district to this place in 1822 AD and named it after their hometown Kodaikanal (Kodai).

    The tourist season begins with the monsoon season and continues till October when it cools down to an average temperature of 23°C roughly 25°C during winter months (December-February).

       This point can be reached by a small trek from kiliyur falls which itself lies 3km from Yercaud Town. It offers scenic view of Salem town, Shevaroy Hills and Mettur Dam. The last stretch has many steps so it's better if you carry water with you as there are no shops or restaurants on this route!
